The Sage is a straightforward side chair: a square timber frame, a tall upholstered back panel set within it, and a padded seat. Its plain geometry makes it a good partner for booths with textured fabrics or slatted screens, which is how it is shown here alongside cane-backed booth seating.
Construction. Solid hardwood in a dark walnut tone, with the back panel framed on all four sides by the posts and rails. The legs are tied by side and back stretchers. The seat is an upholstered cushion on a plywood pan; the back panel is upholstered on the front and framed in timber behind, so it does not show staples from the aisle.
Why it suits hot pot. The sage leather-look cover shown has a slightly distressed finish that hides wiping marks and small scratches between services. The tall square back is also a good place to hang a chair cover or apron, which many hot pot restaurants hand out to guests.
Where it works. Hot pot and noodle restaurants, tea houses, Asian bistros and hotel dining rooms with a warm palette.
Options. Stain; seat and back in commercial vinyl, leather or fabric; armchair version. Seat height can be adjusted to match booth seat height so both sides of the table sit level.
